The Ashes is the most famous test series in cricket where England take on Australia for the right to win the historic, but very small trophy, known as the Ashes Urn. It’s a spectacle like no other as the two teams face each other over five five-day tests. At LiveScore Bet we offer a range of betting markets on The 2023 Ashes including overall winner, test winner, and in-play betting.
About The Ashes
This year the Ashes takes place in England. A home Ashes series is often more competitive than when they are played in Australia. Australia is the holder after they easily beat Joe Roots England’s team in 2021. However, this England team is very different, as they have renewed confidence under captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum. Both teams look to be in fine form with the red ball ahead of this Ashes series, so it's hard to call.
Like everything in England, the weather will play a big part in the series. The recent heat has dried out the pitches and dry pitches are often more difficult for teams to bat on. This could have an impact later on in the series. Let’s be honest, there will probably be rain at some point, and the English summer winds will give the seam and swing bowlers on both teams’ encouragement.
There will also be some changes to the team that played in the last series. David Warner probably won’t play every test match of the series, as the legendary batsman has announced his retirement will be next year. When Warner does play, look out for the battle with him and England’s fast bowler Stuart Broad. Broad has dismissed Warner 14 times in his career.
We feel it might be one of the best Ashes series in recent years.
Popular Ashes Betting Markets
There are plenty of betting markets during The Ashes. If you’re new to Cricket betting we explain some of the key markets below.
Ashes Series Winner
This is a simple bet where the bettor places money on the team that you feel will win the entire series. We will offer odds on this up until the tournament has been decided, so it is important to note that the odds will change throughout the test series.
We also offer a series correct score market. Here the bettor can place money on what they think the final score of the series will be.
Match Winner
This is another simple bet where the bettor places money on what team they think will win each test match. We will offer odds for each test just before the test starts rather than offering the odds all at once.
Top Batsman
With this bet you can place money on the player that you think will get the most runs in the series. This bet is also known as “most series runs”. To increase the odds of your bet you can choose a top-scoring batsman from each team and to create a double bet.
Top Bowler
This is a very similar bet to the top batsman market. Here you place money on the bowler that you think will get the most wickets across the whole series. You can choose one bowler from each country or combine it with the top batsman bet to create a double or acca bet.
Double Chance Betting
A double chance bet allows the bettor to protect their stake, by betting on the two potential outcomes rather than just one. In this bet the bettor will place money on the following outcomes:
- England or Australia to win
- England to win or a draw
- Australia to win or a draw
Odds here are limited as a result of the type of bet it is.
To Win the Toss
In test cricket the finer details matter, including who wins the toss. This can decide a match if the team chooses to bat or bowl in the right conditions. We offer odds on this for each match. This is a great market to combine with others to increase the odds of your double, treble or acca.
